Sugar Grove Park District Celebrates Memorable Year

The Sugar Grove Park District spent the year writing a new chapter filled with ambitious goals and historical milestones.

In 2018, the district honored its outgoing executive director and promoted Karen Pritchard, former Superintendent of Recreation, to lead the organization.

“We’re entering an exciting season having just purchased the Sugar Grove Sports Complex, redeveloped Keck Park, and expanding our program offerings and staff,” said executive director Pritchard.

The park district continues to partner with the Kaneland Community School District to offer before- and after-school care services, after-school activities for elementary and junior high students, and special events during school days off.

“We’ve provided these opportunities on school days off in the past; however, this year we’ve added before and after school care as an option for parents looking to provide a safe and supervised environment during the whole time they’re at work,” said Blake Mayerle, School Services Manager for the park district.

“The new School Services Manager position is designed to increase our services to the community for school-age students and their parents by increasing year-round programming,” said Pritchard.

Most recently, the district’s athletic manager, Tyler Lively, expanded the basketball program leadership to provide a quality league for the entire Kaneland community. “The league is now bigger and better than ever before,” said Lively.

The district’s 5K Run and Walk celebrated 25 years this past year, and a new registration system was launched to provide patrons an easy and modern online experience.

“In 2019, we’re looking forward to taking the lead on the community’s Fourth of July parade, and more exciting plans are in the works!” said program manager, Kathi Malloy.
